| Fall Planting Projects |
|
Plant a tree with us this fall and put a smile on your face!
|
Our fall projects include three schools, several neighbourhood groups, a theatre, a company daycare and a youth organization. A full list with details is here.
There are two projects where you can help:
Saturday, October 21, 10am-1pm Condor Court and Trafalgar The residents of Condor Court Condominiums invite you to plant trees along the public boulevard on Trafalgar, at Condor Court (near Clarke Road). You'll be planting native trees and shrubs and mulching them. The work is fun and relatively easy, suitable for families and people of all ages. Bring a shovel or rake if you can, and if you have a wheel barrow that's easy to transport, we'll put it to use. If you don't have tools, don't worry, we've got plenty to share. Sturdy shoes and gardening gloves are also helpful to have. We'll have water to drink and people there to show you what to do. Park along Condor Court.
Date and Place to be announced We have 600 red oak seedlings to plant, but need a place to plant them. If you have any ideas where these could be planted within London, please contact Bill DeYoung, ReForest London's Technical Advisor at bill@reforestlondon.ca.

| London's woodlands protected |

ReForest London extends our gratitude to all of you who responded to our call for support in the recent City Council vote. Thanks in part to your phone calls, emails, and presence in the City Council gallery, City Council voted 16-1 to adjust the criteria for designating woodlands as being environmentally significant. More than 600 hectares of woodlands will now be protected from being cleared for development.
This vote is a crucial step in reversing the net loss of tree cover that London has been experiencing for decades.
Another positive outcome from the council discussion was agreement from city councillors that the City needs to do more to improve tree cover. The council directed city staff to recommend ways to increase London's approximately 16% of total tree cover. If you have any ideas, please send them our way.

Protecting London's woodlands became easier with a recent city council vote.

| ReForest London seeks board members |
|

|
ReForest London is exploring becoming an independent non-profit organization. Since our start last year, we have been a committee of the Urban League of London. Now, we hope to become a sustainable part of the Forest City, continuing to plant trees with commuity groups throughout with city.
We are seeking individuals who share our vision to form a board of directors. The board will guide our planning and fund-raising activities, will help us build partnerships with individuals and groups who share our vision, and will provide leadership for our staff and volunteers.
If you are interested joining our founding board, we'd like to talk to you. Please contact us at 519-936-9548 or info@reforestlondon.ca.

| Communities in Bloom praises ReForest London |
 |
Communities in Bloom is a national organization that judges Canadian cities for their efforts in floral displays, landscapes, turf, and urban forestry. This year, London received the maximum FIVE Blooms and a prestigious Category Award for Urban Forestry in the large municipality category. This is only London's second year of participating in this friendly competition, and London is considering competing in the national competition next year.
ReForest London was recognized by the judges for recruiting volunteers and raising money to improve London's green cover.
