Estelle Getty 1923-2008

The passing of my friend Estelle Getty saddened me. Estelle was someone who always kept a sense of humor, even while suffering from Lewy Body Dementia, a degenerative brain disorder that shares the symptoms of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease.

I met her through my dear friend Paul Chapdelaine when I first moved to LA 12 years ago. I did her make-up for an event, and we instantly hit it off. There were many dinners and social events I was included in where I got to meet many of the stars from back in the day including Roddy McDowell, Esther Williams, and the rest of the cast of “The Golden Girls”.

I remember specifically one Thanksgiving being seated between Estelle and Lou Ferrigno during our dinner. She was warm, witty, and extremely gracious. I know she left this earth fulfilled with love of good friends, family, and a legacy as the wise cracking Sophia Petrillo that will remain a part of our existence forever.

Diva's Corner

Brow Diva Sarah Agajanian & Katrina Parker

I am so excited to share with all of you brow people what I have been up to. I just recently reconnected to my musical roots by running out to Guitar Center in Hollywood and buying my own Yamaha Stage Keyboard. For those of you who don’t know, I love to play piano and I am actively involved in supporting musicians I believe in.

There are so many artists I love to follow who inspire me. One is my dear friend Katrina Parker. I met Katrina at Ryan Black’s 88. Cabaret show (www.eightyeightscabaret.com) one year ago. She captured the audience so intensely that you could have heard a pin drop or me whimpering in the corner. Her voice is soulful and falls into adult/alternative/pop with a vintage twist. If I were to compare her to other artist I would say she’s a blend of Fiona Apple, Sarah Maglachlan, and Judy Garland. She writes and composes her own music and occasionally covers greats like Billie Holiday.

Katrina and I connected right away and have become friends. Last month I did Katrina’s makeup for Leeza Gibbons
“Leeza Place” charity, which featured Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds and a tribute to his music. Katrina sang “I’m not gonna cry” and “Babyface” himself gave her a standing ovation.
